The cake-cutting ceremony is a 250-year-old Marine Corps tradition that honors our history and those who have served.
During the ceremony, the oldest Marine present receives the first slice of cake and passes it to the youngest Marine present, symbolizing the continuity of experience, knowledge, and brotherhood through generations.
This Minnesota ceremony is part of the national 50-State Cake Cutting Initiative, marking the Marine Corps’ 250th year of service to our nation.
The U.S. Marine Corps, founded on November 10, 1775, reaches a historic milestone of 250 years of service.
This event recognizes the enduring commitment of Marines to their country, their communities, and to one another.
Held on the Capitol grounds in St. Paul, the ceremony underscores Minnesota’s strong support for veterans and service members.
Come celebrate this remarkable milestone with Marines, veterans, families, and friends.
Together, we honor the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the next 250 years of Semper Fidelis — Always Faithful.
